The Mercer Island Bicentennial Committee published the first history book in 1977, Mercer Island - the first 100 years (out of print), the profits were given to the Mercer Island Historical Society. These funds were used to publish an updated edition, called Mercer Island Heritage, published in 1989.

Mercer Island Heritage is available from Island Books on Mercer Island.
